Alyssa Milano and Wendy Williams won’t be exchanging parenting tips, especially where breastfeeding is concerned.
The actress tussled with the TV personality during an appearance on “The Wendy Williams Show” this week, after Williams noted that Milano has stirred up controversy over breastfeeding photos she posted on Instagram.
“I was surprised by the reaction and I was surprised that I then was then put in this position of being a breastfeeding advocate — which I love, and I take that job with a lot of responsibility,” Milano, a mom of two, explained. “But it was kind of shocking that [people] were so opinionated about something that’s supposed to be so incredibly natural.”
Williams then expressed her opinion on the matter.
“I don’t need to see that — I just don’t want to,” Williams said. “I would go to the car [to breastfeed], not on the bench in the front of the big-box store.”
Milano then shot back that society has since sexualized breasts — referencing widespread photos of Miley Cyrus sporting suspenders over her bosom from last year’s Video Music Awards — whereas some consider snaps of moms feeding their children inappropriate.
“So for you, maybe you’ve sexualized breasts, where [Cyrus’ outfit from last year’s VMAs] is OK,” Milano pressed Williams.
Williams, 51, agreed, also admitting that she wasn’t sure where her stance had come from.
“Yes, they’re more sexual than a feeding thing,” Williams continued. “I don’t know why I feel this way. I just feel like … I’m a mom also, breastfeeding is only a particular amount of time. The rest of the life your breasts are sexual things.”
Though Milano and Williams failed to see eye-to-eye, the pair did agree on one topic: the “Charmed” beauty’s svelte post-baby bod.
Having gained 55 pounds while pregnant with son Milo, now 4, and most recently with now-16-month-old daughter Elizabella, Milano insisted that she lost the weight at her own pace.
“I always take my time losing the baby weight because there’s so many more important things to be going through,” she said. “But as far as … Hollywood making me feel that I needed to lose the weight, I didn’t feel that pressure. I felt a personal pressure.”
With the help of the Atkins Diet, Milano is just five pounds shy of her goal weight.
“I’ve been wearing my maternity jeans since the baby was, like, 9 months old,” Milano joked.
