Dannielynn Birkhead and dad Larry are keeping up their sweet father-daughter tradition of going to the Kentucky Derby every year.
The 9 1/2-year-old daughter of Larry and the late Anna Nicole Smith made the public appearance at Churchill Downs on Saturday.
Dannielynn wore a light green dress decorated with pale pink flowers, bright pink shoes and a matching flowered hairpiece. Larry, 43, coordinated with his young daughter in a light green suit, pink bowtie and pink flower in his lapel.
The pair, who live in rural Kentucky, have been attending the Derby together for the past six years. The event holds special significance for the little family: Larry and Smith met in 2004 at a Kentucky Derby party.
Larry, a photographer, recently opened up about how he talks to Dannielynn about Smith, who died of an accidental drug overdose when Dannielynn was just five months old.
“We go back all the time and we go to [Anna Nicole’s] grave,” he told Entertainment Tonight in November. “We visit and I tell Dannielynn stories about her mom. I don’t sugarcoat it. I say there are some things your mom did and, you know, I try to make her learn from it.”
He also shared that he is “so proud” of his daughter.
“I look at her and she’s my everything,” Larry said. “She reminds me so much of her mom and as she gets older, and her features are changing, it’s just like having a little miniature Anna Nicole running around in so many ways.”
