Dancing with the Stars’s Jodie Sweetin Tells PEOPLE How She Conquered Her Meth Addiction to Find Love and Happiness

She spent her childhood making audiences laugh on Full House, but Jodie Sweetin hasn’t always led the happiest life.

“My story is a story of rising up,overcoming, falling down and getting back up again,” Sweetin tells PEOPLE.

After taking a break from acting to attend college, the current Dancing with the Stars contestant developed a meth addiction in her early 20s and was hospitalized in 2005 after a night of partying.

Sweetin entered into treatment and turned her life around, marrying her second husband, Cody Herpin, in 2007 and giving birth to their daughter Zoie in 2008. In 2010, she welcomed daughter Beatrix with singer Morty Coyle, whom she wed in 2012.

Sweetin and Coyle separated in 2013, but the actress found love again and got engaged to Justin Hodak in January.

“It’s been a slow process of finding myself,” the Fuller House star says of her life up to now. “It’s made me develop and blossom and find my true happiness in myself and in my career and relationships. The pieces are finally coming together and creating a beautiful picture that I never could have imagined.”

Sweetin commemorated her journey on Monday’s episode of DWTS during the reality dance competition’s Most Memorable Year week.

“My parents, fiancé and some really close friends will be in the audience,” says Sweetin, who blogs about her DWTS experience exclusively for PEOPLE. “I will have a lot of people in the audience who are supporting me and I’m looking forward to sharing with them how they’ve helped me get to where I am today.”

On DWTS, Sweetin’s Full House costar Bob Saget got emotional as he praised his onscreen daughter: “She’s incredibly real. That’s one of the things I love most about her.”

She managed to wow the judges, who awarded her 23 out of 30.

“I couldn’t have asked for a more beautiful moment,” Sweetin said.

Season 22 of Dancing with the Stars airs Mondays (at 8 p.m. ET) on ABC.
