On June 22, the longtime Norfolk, Virginia, resident was greeted on her front porch by dozens of firefighters from Norfolk Fire-Rescue holding flowers and wishing her a happy birthday.
Norfolk Fire-Rescue says the department has always been a part of Carty’s life. Her late husband, Joe, “served the city for 30 years, starting in 1942; as well as her nephew, Capt. David bear and his father,” according to the Fire-Rescue’s Facebook page.

Carty is pictured grinning from ear to ear she receives a sunflower bouquet from “Battalion 3, Engine 11, Recruit class 155 and a few members from training.”
