Jessica Simpson may now be a billionaire business mogul running an eponymous fashion empire, but somewhere deep inside her there is still a woman of the people who once took the phrase “chicken of the sea” a little too literally. And that woman, just like the rest of us, knows that the only way to kick off the New Year right is with a fresh new do.

While attending a party hosted by Linda Perry for the song “Hands Of Love” from the film Freeheld last night, the singer turned sartorial magnate debuted a much shorter cut (at least compared to her typical rib cage-grazing locks). The new shoulder-length style reinvigorated her look with a sense of lightness and let her play up the naturally wavy texture of her hair.

And that’s not the only big change Simpson made in the first week of 2016. It appears she’s also ditched some of her white-blonde platinum highlights in favor of a warmer, more honeyed blonde that looks to be much closer to her natural color. Perhaps she’s stealing hairstyle cues from her two towheaded children because seriously, who doesn’t dream of growing up to look as effortlessly gorgeous as her daughter Maxwell Johnson?
