John Corbett Says Nia Vardalos Throws the Best Easter Egg Hunts: ‘Nothing Is Off-Limits’

It’s been 14 years since Nia Vardalos and John Corbett filmed the original My Big Fat Greek Wedding movie in 2002 – but the onscreen couple made sure the passing years didn’t make them distant.

“We live three hours apart,” Corbett told PEOPLE at the Cinema Society’s Hestia-sponsored screening of I Saw the Light Thursday. “But at least five days a year we get together and hang out and have dinner.”

And it turns out, being friends with Vardalos definitely has its perks – like lots of big fat parties!

“She’s really big with Halloween and Easter,” said Corbett, 54, adding that her Halloween party in the fall was “almost a 24-hour event.”

“Nia was a witch. She makes potions,” he said. “I was a ghost this year. I think Bo [Derek] was a walking mermaid.”

But according to the actor, Vardalos’ Halloween party is nothing compared to the Easter celebration she has planned. The actress is known for throwing extravagant Easter egg hunts.

“Nothing is off-limits,” said Corbett. “You can go through the house, look through drawers, the yard. I think she knows I’m going to snoop, so she tidies up ahead of time.”

And while reuniting to film My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 felt natural for the friends, Corbett is hoping fans feel the same.

“I’m not nervous, but 14 years is a long time to see everybody and pick up where we left off.”

My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2 is in theaters now.
