In a photo shared on Pete Souza’s – the Chief Official White House photographer – Instagram, the father daughter duo share a laugh with a Spanish-speaking native as Malia, 17, translates.
“The President and Malia share a laugh as Malia translates Spanish to English for her dad at a restaurant in Old Havana,” Souza captioned the photo of the trio.

Since landing in Cuba, much of the trip has been documented on Souza’s Instagram, including Air Force One’s landing, the first family’s outings in Old Havana and the first lady Michelle Obama‘s trip to La Catedral de la Virgen Maria de la Concepcion Inmaculada with her daughters Malia and Sasha.

The Obamas landed in Cuba on Sunday, kicking off the first leg of their landmark trip to the island nation. While President Obama meets with Cuban President Raul Castro, his wife will hold her own meetings with high-school age female Cubans as part of her Let Girls Learn initiative.
On Thursday, the family will board Air Force One again to make their way to Argentina where they’ll meet with the country’s new president Mauricio Macri.
