“The Passion is the story of Christ told in the last hours of his life all through the streets of my hometown, New Orleans,” Tyler Perry says of the live television event that he will narrate and host on March 20 on Fox.
“However it is told in modern-day times,” Perry continues in a preview clip exclusive to PEOPLE. “It gives the viewer an opportunity to see the Word wrapped in flesh and wrapped in life that everyone will understand and I think it’s something that the whole family will see.”
The Passion will feature stages in multiple locations around New Orleans and the star-studded cast – which includes Telenovela‘s Jencarlos Canela as Jesus Christ, American Idol alum Chris Daughtry as Judas, Seal as Pontius Pilate, Latin recording star Prince Royce as the disciple Peter, country star Trisha Yearwood as Mary, the mother of Jesus – will sing live during the two-hour musical event.
“There is nothing like it,” says Perry. “What you’re looking at is something that has never been done on American television.”
The Passion will air live on March 20 at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
