WATCH: Leona Lewis Dishes on Upcoming Broadway Debut in Cats Revival

Leona Lewis says the revival of the hit Broadway musical Cats will be just as “breathtaking” and “mesmerizing” as the original.

Lewis, 31, took to the Tony Awards red carpet on Sunday, where she spoke about her upcoming broadway debut in Cats. The singer said that while the revival stays true to the classic, fans can also expect a few modern twists.

“The classic Cats, which I saw when I was 9, was just so breathtaking and mesmerizing,” she told PEOPLE. “So it’s staying true to the original but they’re injecting a bit of freshness into it which I’m really excited about.”

And with the musical’s opening just one month away, Lewis said she’s eager for the fans to see what the cast has been working on.

“Even in rehearsals I’ll sit and watch what’s going on and get really, really excited about it,” she said.

The Tony Awards is being broadcast live from the Beacon Theatre in New York City on CBS.
